If you want to talk about Shanzhai, you could never ignore the name MTK, whose phone chips enable Shanzhai players to make phones very easily. Until this March MTK chips were only seem on nonsmartphones. In March, the company launched Windows Mobile enable chip MT6516, as the first step to enter smartphone solutions market.
On Jul 12, MTK announced to join the Open Handset Alliance, showing the company’s decision to enter Android phone market. Now only a few weeks pasted, Chinese website MobileUncle has spotted an Android phone that’s based on MTK MT6516 chip at a Shenzhen Shanzhai phone mall. The phone is called T3333a, and looks similar to HTC Touch2. It runs Android 2.1, bringing with 256MB RAM, 512 MB ROM, and dual sim support. It’s still a prototype, and still no information about its other specs, as well as launch time.
